positive things about today:
- One of my coworkers knitted me this AMAZING scarf. I got it today & I’m SO in love with it!
[this woman knits scarves for everyone at the salon. nicest ever right? she also bakes a bunch of tasty treats every Wednesday & brings them to share. she is a Real Life SuperMom.] - My last day of work was fantastic. Everyone was super nice and my boss told me if I ever need to come back they’d love to have me. It meant a lot because I have a lot of respect for her & loved my job but didn’t really know how to express it. She also said I can use her as a reference during my job hunt. Amen and Alleluia.
- I cashed in my piggy bank today and was hoping for $40 max — it was $66.26!! We need all the pennies we can get so that in itself was a day-maker.
- I came home from work & waiting for me were Clay’s birthday present, some Chai tea I ordered, and my February Eco Emi box! So many goodies!!
- I talked to my nephew on the phone for a little bit… he’s turning 4 next week (Leap Year baby!) and he is so so excited. He asked if I wanted to come to his party and if I’d play with “me and the kids,” then told me I should play with only the boys and not the girls. I asked why and he said “the girls are crazy!” He told me all about how crazy they are and how they make a big mess in his playroom. He is so funny and so adorable. I can’t wait for his party this weekend.
- Speaking of, I wrapped his presents tonight while having a decent conversation with my mom(!). I’m so excited about his gifts. He is a total boy’s boy; he’ll be getting a TON of monster trucks, cars, etc. so I try to buy him gifts that expose him to different things. Last year I went with a space theme (stomp rocket + counting rockets book + space stickers) and this year I’m going with science.
I found this little kit for him at a really cool shop in Portland and based the other gifts off of it. Basically he’ll collect different interestingly-shaped objects (toys, leaves, rings, etc.) and put them on this photo paper, expose it to sunlight for a few minutes, then run water over the paper, and voila! the shapes will appear. We did the same thing in my photography class and it was really fun to experiment with different shapes & levels of opacity.
I loved the idea of him doing little experiments with the help of his parents, so I found this science kit for kids, which got great reviews. It’s perfect for his age and I think it’ll be fun for both mom and dad to try with him. I only wish I could be there to see his face when things start fizzing and changing colors!
Since those are both things he’ll have to wait to do, I figured I should get him some kind of instant-gratification gift. I hunted for a pin art toy and found a neon green one. Perfect!! What kid wouldn’t get hours of entertainment with one of those? I’m so excited for him!
So yeah, it’s been a good day. Not a whole lot of progress made on the packing front, but we will get there when we get there. Here’s to positivity!
